Activity-Start indicates the number and total construction value of projects whose construction started in the given period. In Q1 2019 construction works started on the value of approximately HUF 330 billion, which is a decrease of more than 60% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The Activity-Start indicator of civil engineering declined by almost 80%. The drop in industrial buildings, warehouses and other non-residential construction contributed to the decrease in non-residential construction, while the most significant growth was recorded in the hotel segment. Multi-unit housing construction fell again; this has been the fifth consecutive negative quarter. Detailed data can be found in the full report.

Output indicates the amount spent on construction in the given period. In Q1 2019, nearly HUF 600 billion were spent on construction projects in the database, about 30% more (at current price) than a year ago. Output in civil engineering has been steadily increasing since early 2017. When it comes to building construction, its spectacular expansion since the beginning of 2015 has continued, although the 24% increase in Q1 2019 somewhat falls short of the 35% rise registered in the previous 8 quarters. The growth was mostly due to the expansion in multi-unit housing construction, other non-residential construction, agricultural buildings and the office segment.
