ACTIVITY-START 1 – CONSTRUCTIONS STARTED – COUNTRYWIDE

Activity-Start indicates the number and total construction value of projects whose construction started in the given period. During Q4 2019, construction works commenced at a total value of HUF 420bln, marking a 25% decrease over the same quarter of the previous year. The number of projects fell by 60%, down to 500. The decline in Activity Start is mainly explained by the drop in multi-unit housing construction. Although the submarket of non-residential construction shows an overall slight decline, the HUF 260bln Activity Start value is not small; indeed it is the second highest Q4 value in the history of the database. Output indicates the amount spent on construction in the given period. In 2019, nearly HUF 2 560bln were spent on construction projects in the database, 15% more at current prices than in the previous year. Civil engineering output rose by 14%. Road construction works contributed most to the growth in the submarket. We saw a 15% growth in the building construction submarket. Multi-unit housing construction, other building construction and industrial buildings and warehouses contributed most to the growth of building construction in 2019.
