ACTIVITY-START 1 – CONSTRUCTIONS STARTED – COUNTRYWIDE

Activity-Start indicates the number and total construction value of projects whose construction started in the given period. In 2020 as a whole, the total value of started construction works was 15% lower than in 2019, so Activity-Start had been decreasing for two consecutive years. In the multi-unit housing submarket 2017 was the record year and the decline has been steady ever since. Activity-Start in the non-residential submarket peaked in 2018 and since then it has stayed at that level at current prices. Activity-Start in the civil engineering submarket fell by 50% in 2020 against the record year of 2018. Detailed data can be found in the full report.

Output indicates the amount spent on construction in the given period. The Output of the whole construction market dropped by 2% in 2020 at current prices, representing a decrease of about 8%-9% at constant prices. The largest falloff was registered in civil engineering where road and utility construction works declined among the major segments, while railway construction increased. Within building construction, the Output of multi-unit housing construction greatly declined, but the non-residential submarket grew.
